Festival Mall’s Pink October is back for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
An alarming 34.9 percent of breast cancer patients get diagnosed only at the late stages of the illness, showing an apparent need for more education on the symptoms and treatment of breast cancer.
Bearing the theme “Stronger in Pink,” this year’s Pink October continues to promote early diagnosis and aid in the treatment of breast cancer.
Highlighting the annual activity is OKtober, featuring advocates and survivors to empower and encourage women and increase awareness set on Oct. 18, 1p.m., at the Upper Ground New Wing of Festival Mall. Mounted by ICanServe Foundation, the talk will feature breast cancer survivor Dra. Joy J. Aromin, a pediatrician who will speak about her own battle with breast cancer and the journey towards overcoming the illness. Free breast consultations will be available after the program.
Among Pink October’s other events are The Pink Exhibit, open from Oct. 6-30; Pinkalligraphy and Pinkaricature for all Saturdays and Sundays of October at the mall’s New Wing; Pink Moves Zumba sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday this October at the 4th Level Expo; Zonta’s Pink Talk Seminar on Oct. 11 at the Carousel Court; Pink Run: D’Feeting Breast Cancer on Oct. 15, 5 a.m; and the poster-making contest, following the theme Stronger in Pink and depicting the artist’s own interpretation of “Strength in Adversity.”
As the fight against breast cancer continues, Stronger in Pink believes that together, we are stronger in life, in health, and, most especially, in heart and mind.
