Int’l dive B2B meets at DOT’s Dive Expo

More than 40 dive buyers from 19 countries will gather at the Philippine International Dive Expo (PHIDEX),  on Sept.  20-22,  at the Seaside Complex of Conrad Hotel in Pasay City.

Organized by the Department of tourism, the the three-day dive expo will feature business meetings aimed at establishing linkages between buyers and the country’s dive resorts and dive centers.

International buyers from DOT-identified markets include countries in Europe – Netherlands, France, Russia, Belgium, Italy and Denmark – Middle East, the US and Canada. They will be joined by companies from Asia – Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Israel.

These companies specialize in worldwide diving holidays, dive travel and accommodations, dive instruction, diving equipment sales, and resort operations; many of which promote the Philippines’ diving destinations.

Among them are Objectif Atlantide of France which has been mounting environmental and underwater recreational events for 30 years now, and Dive and Travel from the Netherlands which has specialized in worldwide diving holidays, focused on the Philippines since 2003.

Also joining the stellar list of buyers are Y-40 from Italy, which offers a variety of free diving and scuba diving activities, Club Azul, a scuba diving travel agency in Japan, PADI Asia-Pacific Korea Market which prides itself of having trained 27 million PADI divers, and Alghais Diving, based in Qatar which offers Dive Trips and brought dive enthusiasts to Oman and the Philippines.

A 270-square meter Philippine pavilion will feature the country’s foremost dive destinations with at least 20 dive travel operators and co-exhibitors that will showcase different destinations in the country, among them Bohol, Coron, Romblon, Donsol, Puerto Galera, Apo Reef, Tubbataha, Dauin, Apo, Malapascua, Coron, Moalboal, La Union, Cabilao, Alona, Anda, and Sogod Bay.

DOT believes that the expo would be the perfect platform to promote sustainable tourism among dive beginners, underwater enthusiasts and free divers.

The diving industry is one of the bright spots of travel in the country. Diving and snorkeling are one of the most popular activities among tourists. DOT reports that international inbound traffic for the first seven months of 2019 remain robust, totaling 4,85M visitors and posting a 12.36 percent jump versus the same period last year.

According to the Diving Equipment Marketing Association’s (DEMA) scuba diving industry statistics, there are at least 6 million divers and 11 million snorkelers around the globe. The global diving equipment market is expected to r each USD5,106.7M by 2025.
