MEET TAIWAN, Taiwan’s MICE Promotion Program, under Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), Ministry of Economic Affairs, will bring to the Philippines top players from its Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conferences, Exhibitions (MICE) industry dubbed “GO! Experience Taiwan – MEET TAIWAN Networking Event on June 21 at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel in Makati City.
The annual networking event aims to promote Taiwan’s corporate meeting and incentive travel industries, as well as, its excellent MICE environment. The Philippine leg is part of MEET TAIWAN’s 2019 roadshow campaign in Southeast Asia.
Taiwanese delegates will include top travel agencies, venues, hotels, city government and public relations agencies.
MEET TAIWAN is organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
Taiwan ranks 19th among “most popular destination worth visiting in 2019” based on a survey by Airbnb. With its attractive tour packages, Taiwan continues to pull in a significant number of tourists from the Philippines.
“In statistics from the Top 10 countries of visitors to Taiwan by Taiwan Tourism Bureau, the Philippines increased the most, by 44% in 2018 versus the previous year. However, the first quarter of 2019, Taiwan has already welcome 13,000 more tourists from the Philippines versus the same period last year. The number of visitors from the Philippines to Taiwan are expected to increase in 2019.
MICE industry have helped bolster Philippines-Taiwan relations in recent years. According to data of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Taiwan was the Philippines’ 8th largest trading partner, 10th largest export market, 8th biggest source of imports in 2017; as well as, the 8th biggest foreign direct investor in 2018.
PSA figures show a significant jump of 313. 3 percent in investments from Taiwan during the first quarter of 2019 from Php1,299.1 million from 311 million.
MEET TAIWAN was first launched in the Philippines in 2017. Taiwan’s visa-free policy for Filipinos that started on November 1, 2017 gave the country’s MICE program a big boost.
