Seafarer Family Int’l Congress set Aug. 14-15 at Manila Hotel
The Seafarer Family International Congress (SFIC), where issues faced by the ever-growing Philippine seafarer community will be tackled opens on Wednesday, Aug. 14 and will run until Aug. 15, at the Fiesta Pavilion of the Manila Hotel, One Rizal Park, Manila.
With theme “All Aboard: Seafaring Families Engaging the World for Sustainable Well-Being,” this one-of-a-kind event will gather seafarers, government, and maritime industry leaders for two days’ worth of talks for adults and youth and plenary discussions for all guests. It is organized by Gig and the Amazing Sampaguita Foundation, Inc. (GASFI) in partnership with Associated Marine Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) and ITF Seafarers’ Trust.
Partner organization AMOSUP, which is celebrating its 60th year in service of seafarer families, underscored AMOSUP’s role in delivering programs and services to seafarers such as the family medical and dental plan, legal assistance, welfare plans, education and training programs, as well as basic needs for the seafarers and their dependents.
Today, the association continues to respond to the needs of the industry through the creation of AMOSUP Women, a group that gives women in the maritime workforce a platform to discuss issues and make sure their concerns properly addressed.
“Through the years, we realized that if we want the seafarers to be happy, we have to work towards not only their comfort and contentment, but also their families’ happiness,” says Dr. Oca. “AMOSUP supports SFIC with the mission to uphold solidarity, trust, resilience and care—values that are significant to stronger and happier seafarer families.”
SFIC exhibitors include manning agencies, maritime schools and training centers, offshore companies and agencies, Seafarer Unions, Christian maritime associations, Migrant ministries, airlines, automotive dealerships, educational institutions, financial institutions, franchising operators, hospitals and clinics, hotels/resorts and restaurants, insurance companies, mall and shopping complex, as well as companies providing ancillary services to the maritime industry.
Also joining the event are shipping companies, ship builders and dry docking facilities, ship chandlers, port operators, products and services for seafarer families, organizations and cooperatives, telecommunication providers, real estate and property developers, souvenirs and novelty products, food delicacies, theme parks and amusement centers, tour and travel companies, transport operators, and wellness and fitness centers.
SFIC is managed by the Philippine Exhibitions and Trade Corporation (PETCO) and sponsored by Asia United Bank, AJSU-AMOSUP Mariners’ Home, The PTC Group, The Manila Hotel, and PhLUG, with media partners Seafarer Asia, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Business Mirror, and Crossover 105.1.
